May Newsletter: The Love Chapel Foundation

I wanted to spend time today telling you about our Foundation. Often times people have a difficult time determining the difference between an organization and a foundation, and that is often the case with Love Chapel.

Specifically, the Ecumenical Assembly of Bartholomew County Churches, Inc is known as Love Chapel. This is the organization with the boots on the ground, daily providing food, shelter and financial assistance to so many of our neighbors each day. When a donation is made to Love Chapel, it goes for the daily relief efforts undertaken.

The Love Chapel Foundation is a separate entity which is a fully supporting foundation of Love Chapel. The Directors of the foundation are elected by Love Chapel each year, and its sole purpose is to provide support for Love Chapel. Gifts to the foundation go to support three main initiatives, which are outlined below.

The Love Chapel Foundation supports the mission of the Ecumenical Assembly of Bartholomew County Churches (known as “Love Chapel”) to further their mission of helping people with food, emergency housing or financial insecurity. The Love Chapel Foundation is not part of the daily operating budget of Love Chapel. The Foundation was created in 2007 to accumulate funds for longevity and ensure continuing services in a worst-case scenario.

Much like a community fund, 5% of the annual invested fund balance is granted to Love Chapel each year for special and new projects. Examples include fractional support for a new position of Latin X coordinator, weekend food backpacks for food insecure students, two refrigerated trucks to more economically move tons of food for the free food pantry each week.

Support for Love Chapel Foundation is given through monthly and annual donations, gifts of appreciated equities, legacy and estate gifts. For more information contact me, the executive director of Love Chapel, located at 311 Center Street, to discuss how your gift might be directed to either the Love Chapel annual operating budget or to the Foundation.
