Over 3,000 Bartholomew County families will be losing their SNAP benefits, (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), for November and possibly beyond. The SNAP program provides funds to low-income individuals and families to purchase nutritious food. Although we have no way of knowing the exact impact this will have on our community, we do know that many people will be seeking help from our Food Pantry.

Christmas Feast Giveaway

Did you know that Love Chapel has a program to bring some extra love and help during the holidays? We call it our Christmas Feast Giveaway. Holidays are tough for many families, and they want to try and provide a good Christmas for the kids – both with a nice meal and some presents. But money is tight and budgets are stretched.

That is why we have the Christmas Feast Giveaway – to provide some extra food (including items for the Christmas Dinner) during the holidays to share some Christmas Joy to our families. Last year we gave out 1,698 feasts and expect that number to be about the same again this year, if not more!

The baskets will be very similar to last year’s basket and will include a few new items like cream of mushroom soup, French fried onions, and yams. A big part of the basket is the ham, and a dozen eggs each family will receive!
There also will be opportunities to have groups volunteer with packing and delivering. Pre-packing will be done in November and daily throughout December to keep the chaos and confusion down inside the warehouse.

There are two ways that you can get involved. First, if you would like to volunteer to help pack or distribute the baskets, we would love your help. To volunteer, please contact Patra at volscheduler@columbuslovechapel.com.

Secondly, we are looking for sponsorships for baskets. Each basket has around $80 of products in them, and churches, businesses, and individuals are sponsoring those baskets at an amount of $80 each basket. Any sponsor gets a nice holiday card wishing them a Merry Christmas for the sponsoring business, church or individual!

Lastly, we are doing something new with the giveaway this year. Our friends at Asbury United Methodist are spearheading a drive to give out a Bible to any of the 1,700 recipients of the feasts. No one will be forced to receive a Bible, but anyone who wants to get one, will! If you would like to donate gently used Bibles or for more information, contact Kelly Daugherty!

Thanks,

Kelly Daugherty
